LET'S EXPLORE: STATIONERY + DESIGN TRENDS

LET'S EXPLORE: STATIONERY + DESIGN TRENDS

We like to think that we are pretty fashionable here at Ohh Deer; from our delicious marble Daily Journals to our relatable illustrated cards. We like to create items that are not only on-trend but also things that we would buy ourselves. This month our Lead Creative – Jade Walsh created the box by combing two trends: tropical leaves and primary colours – we delve into these two themes below and discuss what stationery trends are hot right now and for 2018.

Tropical Leaves

From monstera to bird of paradise, tropical leaves and plants are everywhere right now; from the home design industry to the catwalk. There are multiple reasons as to why this trend has become so popular; a shift from florals to tropical has introduced a male audience as well as people wanting to take a more maximalist approach to their interiors. The main driving force behind this trend is the famous Banana Leaf wallpaper by Don Loper for the Beverly Hills Hotel – we would love this to decorate our studio here at Ohh Deer but unfortunately it is £200 a roll…

Primary Colours

With red, yellow and blue dominating the design scene with added hints of green, primary colours are on the rise. Each spring, colour gods Pantone forecast a selection of colours for the coming year. For 2017 they weren’t wrong; with Greenery, Flame, Lapis Blue and Primrose Yellow all cropping up into the design scene, and even in the wonderful December Papergang box!

Other Stationery Trends

1. Abstract/Bright – Bold brush strokes, groovy shapes and neon colours, this trend is bound to bring in some brightness into the winter season. It’s playful and inviting, we love it.

2. Sans Serif Type – Typography always rules in the design world, and this season it’s hello from the Sans-Serif typeface. Scaled up or written in a teeny little line, this style of font is seen on many covers of notebook and greeting card to give a contemporary feel.

3. Strong Slogans – We love a shouty slogan at Ohh Deer, the sassier the better in our books. The popularity of #grlpower has pushed the feminine message forward to be plastered over notebooks and journals. This has also seen the likes of everyday messages being used on general greeting cards and organisers.
